The Center for Areal Studies is part of the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Established in 2006 and reorganized in 2012, the Center represents a unified body of research beginning with the Boso Peninsula that incorporates regions throughout Japan, the Far East, and Eastern Eurasia, and undertakes activities that aim to analyze the human and social characteristics of these regions from an interdisciplinary perspective.
