Doctoral Program for the Program of Humanities and Studies on Public Affairs

This program is a doctoral program and provides various lectures and seminars to foster world-class expertise in students who have the required intellectual foundations, a wide range of knowledge in liberal arts and their specialties, and the ability to investigate and solve problems in the master’s program.

We also provide a structural and systematic curriculum designed to develop students’ skills, such as the ability to cooperate and collaborate with others while demonstrating leadership, by sharing the information and knowledge regarding research ethics and their specialties to practically utilize public perspectives in their research activities (ability to collaborate); the ability to plan and manage advanced research and development projects (ability to plan and operate); and the ability to disseminate their outcomes internationally and in an interdisciplinary way (ability to disseminate information internationally). Students can acquire new knowledge and skills that produce new values to sustain a knowledge-based society by independently setting their study subject and implementing their research activities.

The Courses of Humanity provide subjects that can bring specialized knowledge corresponding to fundamental specialties related to the humanities. Students are required to select and complete suitable subjects that are related to their own specialties.

Note) In these courses, students whose doctoral dissertation theme is evaluated as one in which the student has deeply investigated their specialized field or targets over a limited scope will be granted a doctoral degree in literature. Students whose doctoral dissertation theme is evaluated as suitable and has been written after investigating a wide range of academic subjects in the humanities will be granted a Doctor of Philosophy degree.

The Courses of Public Affairs provide a variety of subjects related to current affairs in the fields of politics, policy studies, and international relationships. Students can study interdisciplinary issues such as welfare, environment, and communities, from both global and local perspectives.

Note) The degree granted in these courses is, in principle, Doctor of Public Affairs. However, candidates who have completed their studies in a wide range of subjects concerning public affairs and social sciences, and whose doctoral dissertation theme is evaluated as suitable to earn a degree of this type will be granted a Doctor of Philosophy degree.

The Courses of Social Science provide subjects that can offer advanced and specialized knowledge in the fields of law and economics. They are designed to develop human resources who can understand the nature of various social issues and theoretically draw up new solutions.

Note) The degree granted in these courses is, in principle, Doctor of Law or Doctor of Economics. However, those who have completed studies on a wide range of subjects regarding law, economics, or social sciences, and whose doctoral dissertation theme is evaluated as sufficiently advanced to earn a Doctor of Philosophy degree, will be granted this qualification.
